Introduction Fellowship

Effective Altruism Tilburg is running a free 5-week fellowship to learn about how you can do the most good with your life and career. Participants will combine the head and the heart, as they apply rigor and rationality to questions involving moral philosophy and altruism. Topics include:

Over the course the five weeks, you’ll have weekly 90-minute discussions with a cohort of 4-6 participants and one facilitator. The discussions will be held in-person at Tilburg University. Before attending each discussion, you’ll prepare through readings and brief exercises from the curriculum, which should also take about 90 minutes each week. We hope to provide an engaging, personalized, and enjoyable experience for each participant. The question of how we can improve the world is very complex, and we certainly don’t have all the answers. For this reason, our intention is not only to teach, but also to encourage discussion between participants and approach disagreements as interesting opportunities for novel insights.

Our goal at EA Tilburg is to help students in Tilburg find the best ways in which they can have a positive impact on the world. For anyone interested in the ideas of effective altruism, the Introduction Fellowship is the best (and in our opinion the most fun) place to start! This fellowship is a stepping stone to getting involved with the local and global EA community. It will enable you to identify more specific topics relevant to your interests and career and to apply for EA conferences all over the world.

To get most out of this programme, participants should be able to:

  • Prepare approximately 90 minutes of readings of the curriculum each week.

  • Expect to be able to attend at least 4 out of the 5 weekly 90 minute discussion sessions.

Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. There are a limited number of places. This means that the earlier you apply, the larger the chance we can put you in a group.

Got any questions? Feel free to contact us.

We will start the next round of the fellowship as soon as we have accepted enough participants. Please apply if you are interested in joining and we will let you know when the fellowship starts. In the mean time, also consider joining our other events.
