Understanding Society
To contribute to society, it helps to understand society.
Under this broad banner that we share with TiU (Tilburg University) we develop and collaborate on various initiatives relevant to EA (Effective Altruism). Currently a group with an interest in forecasting, and a Global Mental Health Fellowship.
More information is included below!
In-Depth Effective Altruism Fellowship

🌐 And you can join there online, within our international community! Or register with us, and we’ll start a(n online group) whenever there is sufficient interest.
BTREA —
Biological Topics in Rationality and Effective Altruism
This fellowship covers various biological topics relevant to rationality and/or effective altruism, these are relevant not just for related projects but for anyone in the pursuit of updating their worldview to be more rational and/or do more good.
We’ll meet online 7 times, biweekly, for 2 hours, and cover in order: consciousness, human nature, evolution, sapience, rationality, biosecurity, and wellbeing.
To be eligible to join it is required to have: an introductory understanding of both EA and biology and an interest in the intersection of the two, and additionally we require 1) advanced knowledge of biology or a relatable field (e.g. psychology, philosophy,…) or 2) advanced knowledge of Effective Altruism. Sign-up here.
This is developed in-house, inspired by LTEA: Legal Topics in Effective Altruism.
Forecasting
👻 —> Join us for a tournament this June! Keep reading and join forces:
💭 Every deliberate decision is a forecast. And understanding society is intimately tied with forecasting society, or is it?
🕵️ What is forecasting? Why should you care about forecasting? Do you need to be a domain expert to be good at it? And how does it work, how to learn more about it?
📈 If (some of) these questions interest you, Tilburg Forecasting (WhatsApp) Group is for you! Join to discuss and learn about our activities, which with interest include reading Tetlock’s book Superforecasters and a forecasting fellowship. 📉
👀 For more information on forecasting and the value of forecasting you can read about the Forecasting Team run by Effective Altruism Eindhoven, a team you can also join!
Sustainability fellowship
In 3 meetings of 3 hours we do:
1) The climate fresk and get to know the basics of each other and the climate
2) Discuss Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics. Get your (complimentary) copy!
3) An open brainstorm and discussion on sustainability and what this should mean and its interaction with Effective Altruism and its concepts.

We will discuss how effective current treatments are and explore promising new interventions. By reading relevant literature and having interactive discussions, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the field and engage with other motivated participants.
⏱️ The program runs in November, with a weekly ~1.5hr discussion session and ~1.5hr preparation time.
💙 The program is free and no previous knowledge is required. If you’re interested, please sign up using the link below before the 13th of November. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions!
